Day 20: Introduction to Thinking and Problem Solving

Procedure

  1. Intro
    1. Bell Ringer with Bluey
      1. To wrap up the section on sleep from the other day, we will watch an episode of Bluey entitled "Sleepy Time". 
        1. Answer the prompts in the assignment. 
  2. Activity- Intro to Thinking Marshmallow Tower Challenge
    1. Please listen carefully to all instructions. If you miss anything, please refer to the instructions below.
    2. You will be assigned to a team. You and your team will have 18 minutes to create a structure out of spaghetti, yarn, and tape that will support a marshmallow. The team that creates a structure that supports the marshmallow at the highest height, will receive a prize.
      1. Materials
        1. 20 sticks of dry spaghetti
        2. 1 yd of string
        3. 1 yd of tape
        4. 1 marshmallow
          1. As said before, you and your group have 18 minutes to complete this task. Let your imagination go wild!
          2. I will measure each group's tower at the end of 18 minutes to determine the winner. When we are finished, we will disuss the following questions and watch the following video.
            1. What would allow one group to do much better than another group?
            2. What would hinder specific people or groups from producing a capable tower?

    1. As we go through our Nearpod today, I want you to be able to think about how the terms/concepts we are talking about apply to the activity we completed. Throughout the Nearpod, we will watch videos and discuss examples of the terms/concepts we are covering
